School Council

Riverhead Infants' School Council was re-launched during Friendship Week in November 2010, almost 6 years after it was first set up in December 2004.  During this time it has been involved in a wide variety of activities and projects.

The School Council

Class 9
Edward, Amy
Class 8
Ryo, Sophie
Class 7
Sam, Megan
Class 6
Cristian, Ruby
Class 5
Hugo, Kate
Class 4
William, Frances
Link Teacher
Mrs Bligh

In preparation for the re-launch, all year 1 and year 2 classes were involved in a series of learning activities to develop skills that encourage effective participation (irrespective of pupil councils) including thinking, listening, discussing, choosing and agreeing.  Further activities supported their understanding of the structures necessary to ensure that pupil councils can work effectively.  These included learning about: class meetings; school council structure and how to choose class representatives; class councils, agendas and minutes.

Each year 1 and 2 class has two elected representatives who liaise between their class council and the school council.  Each reception class has a link officer from year 2 who undertakes this role.  The class councils play an important part in ensuring that every child can participate and can contribute to the decision making process.

The first job of the new school council was to agree the Constitution before getting involved in new projects.  You can read the Constitution and see how their work is progressing in their minutes below.

Constitution

The Constitution of the School Council can be viewed (in a separate window) by clicking here.

Playground

We all need to relax at times, so in this section will appear some relaxing puzzles just for fun.

In this first puzzle you start off on the path at the bottom of the big square.  You are attempting to reach the central grassy square by moving the mouse along the paths that open up before you, to the front or to either side of you.  But beware!  Stepping off the path will bring sudden death as you sink into the mud!

Good Luck! (and no cheating).

[many thanks to Stu Nicholls for this puzzle]
