Admissions

We are a three-form Infant School ranging from Reception to Year Two.  We filter through to our Junior School, Amherst, which is just across the road. 

Kent Local Authority co-ordinates the admissions of all primary schools in the County which means you will need to apply directly through their website: Primary school places - Kent County Council naming up to three schools

Our Published Admissions number (PAN) is 90 per year group. Our places are allocated based on the following criteria:

• LAC – Looked after children or previously LAC
• Current family association - sibling
• Health and special access reasons (to be determined by the school)
• Distance of child’s home from the school

If your child is due to start school in September 2026 applications will open on Friday 7th November 2025 and close on Thursday 15th January 2026.  

In the April prior to your child starting school you will be informed by the Local Authority which school your child has been allocated.  You can appeal against the decision and the allocation letter will outline how to go about making an appeal. If you are interested in a place for your child at Riverhead Infants’ School please contact the school office at office@riverhead.kent.sch.uk To have your child’s name added to our waiting list you will need to complete an ‘In Year Admissions Form’ as below and returned to the school, we will then notify you of your position on our waiting list if no spaces are available within 10 days of receipt.
